AWAKEN! The 40 Days of Yoga 2026
Starting January 1, 2026
We are thrilled to invite you to 40 Days: Awaken!, a journey of daily practice, reflection, and transformation. Inspired by Baron Baptiste’s book 40 Days to Personal Revolution, this Sadhana (daily practice or discipline) uses yoga as a tool for growth. As Baron writes,
“The word yoga, in fact, means ‘to join one point to another,’ ‘to leave one place, space, condition and move toward a better one.’”
Yoga is medicine—a path to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. One of the goals of this Sadhana is to help you build a consistent daily yoga practice, tailored to your unique self.
The Wisdom Behind the Practice
The great yoga master T. Krishnamacharya—teacher to B.K.S. Iyengar, Srivatsa Ramaswami, Pattabhi Jois, and others in our lineage—taught:
“Yoga is a process of replacing old patterns with new and more appropriate patterns. If such a practice is followed, one acquires the power (Shakti) to change one’s destiny… Deep desire, faith, courage, perseverance, pure and limited food—practiced daily with devotion, sincerity, and respect—are required.”
Your practice may look different from others’. Think of it like a “Choose Your Own Adventure”—at minimum, try one pose daily and sit for one minute of meditation. But yoga goes far beyond postures: it’s about kindness, truthfulness, generosity, and mindful living. Some may also choose to give up something for 40 days to strengthen their power of choice in what they eat, drink, say, or do. And if you stumble? You can always begin again.
Why 40 Days?
Rumi reminds us:
“What 9 months has done for the embryo, 40 early mornings will do for your growing awareness.”
Across cultures, 40 days is a sacred period for transformation, renewal, and self-discovery:
40 days to release old patterns and cultivate new ones.
40 days to harness creativity, focus, and energy.
Physiologically, our skin renews in 40 days, red blood cells cycle, and even personality traits can shift with consistent practice.
Spiritually, Siddhartha Gautama meditated under the Bodhi tree for 40 days, Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness, Moses fasted for 40 days on Mount Sinai, and many traditions across Hinduism, Jainism, Islam, Sufism, and Zoroastrianism honor this sacred period.
In 2020, researchers found that 40 days of mindfulness meditation led to structural brain changes, improved quality of life, and reductions in anxiety and depression. The number 40 is a powerful time for testing, purification, and growth.
Your Journey
During these 40 days, we’ll share daily guidance from yogis, musicians, spiritual leaders, authors, athletes, activists, and artists to keep the fire of practice burning. Each day is an invitation to awaken—to your body, mind, and spirit—and to experience life more fully.
“Practice and Enlightenment are not two.” – Dōgen Zenji
As the mantra says:
Asato Ma Sadgamaya
Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya
Mrityor Ma Amritamgamaya
Om Shaanti Shaanti Shaantihi
“Lead us from Untruth to Truth,
Lead us from Darkness to Light,
Lead us from Death to Immortality.
Om. Peace, Peace, Peace.”
Lessons from Geese
When geese fly in a “V” formation, each bird creates uplift for the one behind, increasing flying range by 71%. Likewise, community and shared intention can lift each of us further than we could go alone. By practicing together, we move with support, inspiration, and momentum.
🌟 Let’s awaken together. All we have to do is practice.
